Masks are the oldest way of skin care for the face and body. They were used as far back as Antiquity – elegant Egyptian and Roman women prepared concoctions themselves to beautify their faces.
Cream masks can contain different ingredients, which determines their effect. There are products that deeply moisturize, stimulate skin processes, balance and protect, cleanse, regenerate, astringent, soothe, firm, strengthen, calm, brighten, antibacterial or lift. Many products are dedicated to a specific skin type – for example, dry and sensitive, acne-prone, oily or vascular.
How does the cream mask work?
Cream masks are the most popular and popular type of cosmetic masks. It’s a product that has a similar consistency to a cream – it’s lightweight and forms a gentle film on the skin. The main difference between a cream mask and a cream is the way it is applied and works. Cream masks contain more active ingredients than traditional day or night creams.
The mask is applied in a thick layer to the skin (usually the face, but cream masks for the body are also available). This creates an enveloping coating on the surface of the skin (known in cosmetics as occlusion). This allows the active ingredients contained in such a cosmetic to penetrate into the deep parts of the skin. At the same time, the mask protects against too much water loss from the epidermis. So in practice, any cream mask has an intensive nourishing and moisturizing effect.
The product is usually left on the skin for several minutes. The specific time is specified on the packaging by the manufacturer, as different cosmetics have slightly different compositions, based on different nutrients, which may need more or less time for active action. Some masks must be washed off after a certain amount of time, while others are left on the skin until they are completely absorbed.
How to choose a cream mask?
You can find a very large selection of cream masks on the market. Different cosmetics are based on different nutrients, and may contain saturated and unsaturated fats, vitamins and additives. The type of mask should be selected according to the type of skin and the tasks we set before the cosmetic.
Tightening masks help to slightly firm the skin, give it elasticity and eliminate fine lines. Astringents are dedicated to problems with oily and acne-prone skin, as they reduce seborrhea. Anti-inflammatories help with the problem of dilated blood vessels. Toning and calming reduces congestion, moisturizes, relaxes and soothes the skin. Smoothing and firming ones are ideal for very mature skin, while cleansing ones help remove excess sebum, dirt and dead skin.
