Argan – what is it and what are the properties of argan oil contained in Argan nourishing moisturizing cream?

Argan oil is a natural specific with a rich composition and valuable properties, which is widely used in cosmetics, dermatology and massage. It is referred to by the term “liquid gold of Morocco.” Find out how it is obtained, what it contains, and how it can be used.

What is argan?

Argan is an oil extracted from the fruit of the Argan tree (Argania Spinosa), which grows exclusively in southern Morocco. The largest clusters of argan trees are in Sus and overgrow an area covering some 800,000. ha. The area is famous for its clean environment – the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve has been operating here since 1998. It is interesting to note that argan trees have been planted elsewhere in the world, but these crops have not been successful. UNESCO has listed it as a World Heritage Site. By the Barbers (indigenous Moroccan people), the Argan tree is called the “tree of life.”

Argan oil is made by Moroccan women, using a traditional method handed down by desert peoples from generation to generation. It is cold-pressed from carefully selected seeds.

Composition and valuable properties of argan oil contained in the moisturizing face cream

Argan is rich in unsaturated fatty acids (45% is oleic acid and about 35% is linoleic acid), which are excellent at protecting the skin from water loss, delaying the aging process and supporting the natural reconstruction of the epidermal lipid barrier. In the composition of argan oil, an important role is played by the high content of vitamin E, which neutralizes free radicals, thus delaying the aging process of the skin, adding firmness and elasticity. Sterols have bacteriostatic effects, so they are great for acne-prone skin, while sigmasterol helps regenerate the epidermis and nails.

Argan oil also contains:

  • Vitamins B1 and B2,
  • omega-3 and omega-6 type acid,
  • beta-amyrin, which is distinguished by its valuable anti-inflammatory properties,
  • butyrospermol to help care for tanned skin.

Argan in cosmetics

Argan oil is used very widely in cosmetics. Very high in vitamin E (more than in olive oil), argan is often added to cosmetics designed for mature skin. It is excellent for fighting wrinkles, loss of firmness and premature aging of the skin. The effect is enhanced by natural antioxidants that neutralize the adverse effects of free radicals.

Argan shows regenerative and restorative abilities, strengthens hair and nails, deeply moisturizes the skin, tightens and firms it. It also protects against adverse external factors (sun, frost, wind).

Argan oil finds its way into creams, lotions, masks, intensive serums or conditioners designed for body, face and hair care. It can also be used to make homemade cosmetics.

Argan in dermatology

Argan oil works well for acne-prone skin, skin with psoriasis or eczema. It accelerates the healing of minor wounds, skin cracks and scars. It is also used as an aid in the treatment of rheumatism and for muscle-relaxing massages.
