What is squalane?
Squalane is a derivative of a lipid (squalene) that occurs naturally in the skin. It is one of the more common chemical compounds that make up the sebum or oil secreted by the sebaceous glands. This makes squalane an excellent moisturizer that helps slow the signs of aging and helps prevent split ends or hair breakage.

What does squalane do for the skin? It definitely improves the appearance of the skin. You can use it on your face to help seal cosmetic products, such as the lighter serums or toners you use. Often people who have very dry skin don’t quite feel comfortable despite using moisturizer. It is squalane that comes to the rescue. Apply it to your cream and feel how good it is for you!
And if you have oily or acne-prone skin, you’ve probably avoided oils. Squalane is safe to use on such skin. It is non-comedogenic and does not clog pores. Studies show that squalane’s anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce redness and swelling in cases of acne and even other skin conditions such as eczema.
Squalane is often compared to hyaluronic acid for its strong moisturizing properties. Also, it forms a fine film on the surface of the skin, retains moisture and reduces transepidermal water loss.
